Questions about STIs

This story is written by one of the LWC staff. *All names are changed to protect the privacy of our clients.

Annie*, a High School student called LWC, expressing much stress due to the many changes COVID 19 brought to the end of her senior year: no prom, no graduation, no graduation parties, sports didn’t get to wrap up, and though she has a college plan, she didn’t get to finish the search process like she thought she would. On top of that, she was afraid she might be pregnant and maybe even have an STI. Our nurse heard the fear in her voice as she explained she had insurance through her parents, but really didn’t want them to know what was going on.

Annie seemed encouraged by her phone conversation with the nurse. LWC sent her resources electronically: articles on female health from the American Pregnancy Association, medical referrals, information on relationship boundaries, and more. We even sent an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) digital presentation for her to view. Our nurse answered any and all questions Annie had and scheduled time to follow up with a text or phone call.
