The important thing to remember when facing an unexpected pregnancy is that you have options, and you’re the one who gets to decide what to do. No one can force you into a decision you don’t want to make.

Health and Safety Checklist

You deserve the best healthcare to make a fully informed decision about your pregnancy. You should never continue seeing a healthcare professional who coerces you or avoids information on side effects.

You are entitled to every item on this list before making an important choice about your pregnancy:

  • The right to talk with the doctor prescribing or performing your abortion
  • The right to a full and accurate description of the abortion procedure you’re considering
  • The right to know ALL potential side effects since this is a serious medical procedure. Things like bleeding, perforation, pain, and more are all side effects of abortion procedures.
  • The right to know about the doctor performing the procedure: his/her history, licenses, qualifications, any malpractice suits against them
  • The right to be treated with dignity and respect in a clean and safe environment
  • The right to obtain a second opinion
  • The right to ask questions and change your mind, even at the last minute
  • The right to obtain a copy of your medical records
  • The right to ask what hospital you’ll be sent to if complications arise. If the doctor denies the threat of complications, you have the right to go somewhere else.
  • The right to confidentiality and privacy.
